In the heart of New York City, I. Design and Associates was born from a simple realization: the homes we love shouldn't stop working for us as we grow older. I'm Irvin Ponde, an Associate member of the American Institute of Architects with over two decades of experience in architectural design — and for years, I watched clients face impossible choices between the home they'd built a life in and the home their changing bodies now needed.
That realization led me to pursue my CAPS — Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist — certification, and it reshaped how I approach every project. Whether I'm redesigning a bathroom for safer mobility, widening a doorway, or reimagining an entire apartment for a family navigating a new diagnosis, my goal is the same: to make sure independence, dignity, and comfort never have to be traded away.
I.D.A. is still lean and deeply personal — every project gets my direct attention, informed by two decades of training under my mentor, Architect William S. Leeds, AIA. But our ambitions are bold: to become New York City's trusted name in aging-in-place and accessible design, one home at a time.
